My first post

Pats Games

This is the first post for my gaming blog and so I will be introducing myself and the reason I’m starting a blog. I’m starting this blog for a class project, but I have wanted to do something with my gaming for a while now. Currently I’m a student of Radford University and will post a game review once a week, attempt to stream on twitch at least once a week and post about game updates as they come. My account Usernames for Twitch, Discord, Twitter, and PSN are located at the bottom of my website page, if you want to play a game sometime feel free to send me a friend request and we can figure something out.

Currently I have been playing Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat 11, and the Assassins Creed Ezio Trilogy ( I finished AC 2 last week and just started Brotherhood)  if you would like to see me stream any of these let me know and I’ll try to play it next time I stream, otherwise I will probably be playing Call of Duty. Some of my favorite games I’ve played are Spiderman(PS4), Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, God of War, Dead Space 2, Last of Us, & Killzone 3. Some of the games I will be giving reviews of are Call of duty, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, The Outer Worlds, and more.

My reviews of games will be my opinion of the game as well as stating how gamers and critics feel about the game. As for game updates I will be letting you know what came in the update for certain games and my opinions on the updates. For instance, one of the recent updates for Call of Duty added a crossbow and five more custom loadout options for players and because it gave players more class options, I think it can make some games faster if players use all of the loadouts properly.

Just to make it clear if I haven’t already, I’m just a casual gamer and will be voicing my opinions as well as the opinions of others here. When I stream on twitch, I will post an update on my snapchat story. I believe this is everything I wanted to say for my first post so if you would like to stay informed with my blog, please sign up for updates and I look forward to posting more content.

GreedFall Review

7/10

Im a big fan of RPG games and one game that I feel not enough people know about is GreedFall, I’ve been playing it a lot lately and have been having a great time playing. The developers, Spiders, have done a fantastic job of story building and created a world that is just filled to the brim with story. While the game doesn’t have the best graphics, it makes up for it with its exciting combat and great, unique quests. The side quests in this game aren’t just a fetch job like in some games, these side quests are all unique and can escalate to something much bigger than you expected when you started.

GreedFall begins with your character, Mister De Sardet, embarking on his journey to the land of Teer Fradee. Once you arrive in New Serene your cousin, who is the governor, becomes sick with the malicor, the same disease that killed your mother before you left. Now you have to uncover the mysteries of the island in the hope of finding a cure for this disease. You meet a lot of characters throughout the game and are able to have 5 companions travel with you and each have their own story quests. These characters are all tied to different factions like Siora, who you meet very early in the game, is a native and so if you upset the natives during the course of the game you hurt your relationship with her. Over the course of the game you are able to decide who stays on the island and who leaves by playing politics and speaking with their leaders.

The combat system is pretty nice in this game, you are able to use different weapons like sword, hammers, and axes. These different weapons have different stats requirements and so you can only use the weapons that fit with the way you level up your character.  Once you’ve leveled up a few times though you can start purchasing new skills that you didn’t have like guns, magic, and traps. You can also change your armor and add upgrades to them that increase a skill, like lockpicking or science. This is helpful because you can carry different armors and just change it when you need a higher skill in something.

I’ve been enjoying this game a lot since I haven’t played an old-school RPG in a while and if you do too or have been interested this game might be for you. Playing it isn’t complicated, the game teaches you everything you need to know and has a fascinating world to explore. This game doesn’t have the best graphics and it is glitches some times but its still a really good game because of all the work Spiders put into this game. Id recommend this if your interested in rpg games.

Games to play during Quarantine

This is a list of games for you to play during quarantine. Me personally am having to do a self-quarantine for the second time and Ive found these games to make passing the time a lot easier. These are also just options to get some ideas rolling of games you might want to play.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare

Call of duty modern warfare is a great game to hop on with your friends online. You can play multiplayer with all of the new maps and guns that they’ve added or play gunfight with one friend and of course you can play warzone and get a victory. There are a lot of options with this game and it’s the new meta right now, so it has a massive player base, which means there’s a whole lot of competition.

Final Fantasy 7 remake

Final fantasy 7 is a great game and has a great story. If you like adventures or animes this game is probably for you. You play as cloud as he travels through Midgar with his friends trying to stop the evil corporation Shinra.

Uncharted 4

Uncharted 4 might be one of my favorite games of all time, it’s like an Indiana jones story if there were less Nazis and more pirates. You play as Nathan Drake as he discovers his long thought dead brother is still alive and has plans to uncover a pirate treasure. There’s a catch though, Nate got married and gave up the life at the end of the 3rd game, so throughout this game he’s torn between his wife and his brother. This game is really fun and looks amazing, oh and its also the free game of the month for PlayStation plus users, so download it if you can.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 is an incredible game that takes a really long time to finish, but with the quarantine I got nothing but time. I’ve been able to hop into this game on and off over the last few years and every time I play I uncover something new, It’s crazy how big and full of life the game is. You play as Geralt as he looks for Ciri whos being hunted by the Wild Hunt. If you’ve seen the show you know some of the characters but what this game does is dive even deeper into that world and allow you to be Geralt for a while.

Death Stranding

Death Stranding is the new game by kojima starring Norman Reedus as he travels through this post-apocalyptic America making deliveries and reestablishing connections between survivors and essentially rebuild America. This game is beautiful and can really take the mind off of everything around so if you find yourself locked in your home for 2 weeks you gotta try this one

Fallout 76

This one is a take it or leave it option, it’s gotten well deserved hate and criticism in the past but just recently they added the Wastelanders DLC and brought in all of the NPC’s that the game was missing before. I went into this game expecting bugs and crashes but I haven’t seen one, in fact it’s just Fallout 4 in a different setting that gives a bit of Skyrim vibes sometimes. If you enjoy fallout games this game might have just fixed its problems, but you should take that with a grain of salt as I just started playing.

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is great to hop in with a few friends and blast your way through enemies and get new guns. The story is pretty good too, you play as one of the four vault hunters and start your journey to unlock vaults, but there are new enemies now that Handsome jack got killed. Now theres the Children of the vault. 2 psychopathic sirens have convinced the psycho bandits to join them and they don’t like you at all. If you’ve played borderlands before you know what your getting into, if not well there are a whole lot of guns, for instance they have guns with legs and bullets that explode into projectiles after getting a head shot.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

9/10

The Final Fantasy 7 remake is finally out, and it is a breathtaking adventure that has me struggling to stop playing it. Every time I’m playing and have to get off, I can’t stop until I get to a good spot in the story which usually means another 30 minutes or more. I don’t have experience playing final fantasy games either, but now that I’ve played this one, I plan on playing through Final Fantasy 15. Without having any knowledge of the series I was able to jump into this one and have an amazing time so far, so if you haven’t played a Final Fantasy before this could be a good starting point.

Final Fantasy 7 takes place in Midgar, a fictional super city that is run by the corporation Shinra. You play as Cloud Striffe, an ex-soldier trying to make his name as a mercenary who is hired by an Eco-terrorist group known as Avalanche, who believes Shinra is actually going to destroy the world. While with Avalanche he is reunited with his childhood friend Tifa who joins Cloud on his adventure.  As you play through the story you meet new people and take on different quests to help people and find out what Shinra is really up to.

The gameplay is smooth and calculated, when in a battle you can attack normally or pull up the commands menu that gives you options of all the characters abilities and spells. Each character has different fighting styles that you can use, Cloud uses his sword and has two modes that if used correctly you can parry almost every attack. Barret uses his gun hand to deal damage to anything that’s out of reach and is able to take a lot of damage. You can also use something called a summons that is available during boss fights, where you summon a god to fight with you. Using a summons is very cool and can turn the tide in a fight when you think your done for. During battles you can hack your way through enemies or tactically use your abilities to weaken the enemies. The only problem that I have found in the game is that your health doesn’t regenerate on its own, after a battle it’s important to remember to heal Cloud and his companions.

Ive had a great time playing the Final Fantasy 7 remake and I think if your interested at all in the game give it a shot. Keep in mind I haven’t played Final Fantasy before and this one is great for someone new, even Cloud is new to Midgar so the game tells you about the world and what’s going on, therefore you haven’t missed anything needed from the old games.

Resident Evil 3 Review

8/10

So the remake for Resident Evil 3 is out and lets just start by saying this rollercoaster of a game was pretty fun. I had an interesting first play through though and didn’t find any of the hip pouches to increase my inventory, so by the end of the game during boss fights I didn’t even have space for health in my inventory. Even though I made those mistakes early on in the game it only made the game more challenging, not impossible. This game is a remake of the resident evil 3 Nemesis that came out in 1999, similar to how capcom recently remade Resident Evil 2. This game has less puzzles and a lot more action compared to Resident Evil 2. It also has a dodge ability that wasn’t there in 2, its probably the most useful thing if your running low on supplies.

Resident Evil 3 takes place in Raccoon City just before the second game, you actually visit some of the same areas. You play as Jill Valentine, a STARS Officer, as she makes her way through a zombie infested city. Jill has been investigating Umbrella Corp. since the mansion incident in Resident Evil 1. You also play as Carlos Oliveira, an Umbrella Corp. soldier, who helps Jill as she continuously fights off Nemesis. The games main enemy is Nemesis, a walking/leaping tank with one goal throughout the game, to kill Jill Valentine. Nemesis does one thing in the game and its chase you down, he also doesn’t die so your only choice is to run. You can damage him enough to knock him down for a few seconds though.

This game also comes with a multiplayer called Resident Evil Resistance, where one person controls the map, placing down zombies and traps to prevent the other 4 players from completing the stage and moving on. I’ve had fun playing this, but the only thing is that its pretty difficult, unless you work with your team, but most of the time everyone is just going to run around. This game is similar to Dead by Daylight in the way that one team plays as survivors and the other as a monster. The survivors you can choose each have different skills that can be used to help complete the level. There’re a few different options for the monster, for example you can play as the Tyrant or Birkin from Resident Evil 2.

I think this game is really good, but I could be biased because I just really enjoy Resident Evil games. Although this game is short it constantly had me on the edge of my seat with Nemesis coming out of nowhere and relentlessly chasing me through Racoon City. I recommend this game to anyone because its short, entertaining, and it’s got a whole lot of explosions.

Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

              10/10

Well I woke up yesterday to some surprising news from my friends, Modern warfare 2 campaign is getting remastered, and its already out. I’m not gonna lie, I heard about it and I bought it immediately. I remember playing this game when it came out in 2009 and that game changing my life, I mean I played the story over and over, and the multiplayer all day. Jumping back into this game after 11 years surprisingly feels as if it came out yesterday, which technically it did, but I remember every mission and character. After playing for a little yesterday I made it to a mission that takes place in Rio and immediately I thought “oh crap this one’s hard” and as I ran through a favela, with militia coming out of every corner and door, while trying to catch and not kill this guy they need for intel on Makarov.

The story of modern warfare 2 is possibly the best Call of Duty story in my opinion. It takes place 5 years after the first game Imran Zakhaev is dead and now a new big bad has stepped into the spotlight, Makarov. After Zakhaev staged a bloody coup in the middle east which ended, with a nuke going off, the world is tense and a war is definitely coming. Makarov wants to bring Russia into a war with America and he does, after a very brutal missions that changed games forever when it first came out. This game goes all over the world from Rio to Russia and even North east Virginia when America gets invaded. You play as American soldiers in Task Force 141 with Captain Price, Soap Mactavish, Roach, Ghost and more.

The game is the same as when it released in 2009 other than its graphics which are great. The game only comes with its campaign mode and that’s probably due to the fact that if they did release its multiplayer, a lot of people would stop playing the new Modern Warfare. It only makes sense that they would want to keep everyone playing the new Warzone instead of having half of the player pop. moving over to a different game.

I think this game is great, it’s one of my favorite games from my childhood so I have that nostalgia factor with it. if you’ve never played the original Modern Warfare trilogy I definitely suggest this game and if you have played the original trilogy then you should definitely get this game, I mean what else are you doing with this quarantine.

Doom Eternal Review

8/10

Doom eternal is a sequel to the 2016 Doom and Bethesda has taken the original formula that they used before and just made it better. The gameplay is faster, more chaotic, full of monsters, and has a great soundtrack. Demons have invaded earth and mars; you play as the Doom Slayer (DS) and have to save humanity from extinction by

destroying everything in your way. There’s also a multiplayer called battlemode where you can play as the DS or one of the demon characters it’s a 2 vs 1 cage match with some easy enemies around the map for ammo. I haven’t really touched the multiplayer since I’m still finishing the campaign, it’s fairly fun, but difficult, I recommend you try it out if you have the game and haven’t played it.

The game has a better story than the previous game, essentially the Doom Slayer is like humanities savior and is looked at as an unstoppable force by all the people. Throughout the game you will fight on earth, mars, and also hell throughout the game and the level designs are great. The cities you go to on earth are all destroyed with huge monsters just roaming in the background. The character design is also awesome, the Doom Slayer and all the demons look great. The Doom Slayer also has a Justice League watchtower type of headquarters called the fortress of doom orbiting earth.

As you play through the campaign, you’ll unlock more weapons and which means more ways to kill your enemies. To be effective you have to use your entire arsenal of weapons like the flamethrower and the chainsaw so you can get shield and ammo while also getting a few glory kills for more health. There are also skills and runes to unlock in the game, the skills are unlocked by finding praetor suit coins around the level and runes are found around the levels as well. You can also customize the Doom Slayer by finding/unlocking new skins, for instance there is a classic Doom marine skin and also a zombie Slayer skin.

Overall, I think this is a solid game with good graphics and smooth gameplay that is extremely brutal at times, but in a good way since hes killing demons. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes brutal, fast-paced, Non-stop, shoot-em up action games.

Top 10 Game stories

This top 10 list is about games that I think have the best stories on ps4, this is based on my opinion and if you think differently feel free to comment and let me know.

1. God of War

God of War (PS4) is an amazing game that continues Kratos story after he killed all of the Greek gods. Now he’s in the Norse Realm and has been living in hiding with his wife and child Atreus. The game begins with his wife’s funeral and they have to carry her ashes to the highest point in all the realms which is more difficult than you would think since they also have the Norse gods looking for them.

2. Last of us

Last of us is essentially a cross country road trip 40 years after the start of a Zombie-like infection has ravaged the world. In the story you play as Joel and Ellie as Joel attempts to take Ellie to a group called the Fire Flies to develop a cure after she finds out that she’s immune to the infection. this story is an extremely engaging one that feels like an emotional rollercoaster.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place before the first game and you play as Arthur Morgan a member of Dutch’s gang who struggles to keep his friends alive as Dutch keeps getting them into situations where their lives are on the line. This is a beautiful game and great story that you can play for hours.

4. The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

In the Witcher 3 Geralt is trying to find Ciri before the Wild Hunt can find her. in the story you venture around the massive world meeting old and new friends. There are countless side quests and enemies to fight that will keep you entertained for a long time. with the DLC that CD Project Red has released there are more than 20 hours of content to the already 50 hour main story.

5. Spiderman

Spiderman on PS4 does a fantastic job of telling a new Spiderman story where Peter Parker is older now and works with MJ, Miles Morales, and more characters as a new threat arises in New York City. The games mechanics are great and does an amazing job of capturing what it would be like as Spiderman.

6. Uncharted 4

Uncharted 4 is possibly the last Unchatrted game and is a perfect end of the story. Nathan Drake is struggling with dealing with a normal life after marrying Elena, he finds out that his long thought dead brother Samuel is still alive and has an adventure for him that he cant refuse. Naughty dog added new features to the game like a grappling hook to swing across areas which adds a whole new way of playing these games that I didn’t know I needed.

7. Resident Evil 2

the Resident Evil 2 Remake has an amazing story that allows you to play as Leone or Claire as they venture through Racoon Cities Police department. Both characters have 2 storylines that go through the same map with different features, the way that this is done makes it feel like your playing a whole new story as the characters interact with different characters

8. Modern Warfare

Modern Warfare’s story has breath taking graphics and does a great job of taking what we know and love from the Modern Warfare series and doing something new with it. you play as Alex and Kyle Garrick as they work with Captain Price to take down a Russian who has invaded the fictional country of Urzikstan. The game offers an intense story that sets up the new series in a great way.

9. Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus is the 3rd game in the series that follows Artyom and his friends traveling through a nuclear Russian wasteland. they find out that they aren’t the only ones who have survived and leave the metro to find a new life. the game offers weapon customization and item crafting to help you venture through the wasteland. there are new enemies and characters that give the game a whole lot of content to experience as you play.

10. Hell blade Senua’s Sacrifice

Hell blade Senua’s Sacrifice Follows Senua, a mentally unstable Viking, as she tries to resurrect her dead husband by traveling to Hel to bargain for his life. This game has amazing graphics and a short but intense story that has you fighting demons on your way to Hel.

Death Stranding Review

Death Stranding is the newest game by Hideo Kojima and it’s a great game that is very confusing as it throws you into this post-apocalyptic world where dead bodies are practically nukes and rain (time fall) causes anything to age very rapidly. The game includes known actors such as Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Troy Baker, Mads Mikkelson and more. The games breath taking graphics are incredibly stunning and constantly cause you to just stop and look around. I haven’t been able to finish the game yet and have just recently had to travel around and up a mountain just to go back and forth a few times, I was warned that I was going to hate the mountain and yes, I hate that mountain.

Part of the mountain

As you progress and “reconnect America” you start to build roads that make travel much easier and less dangerous. Some parts of the game are just downright confusing like the fact that Sam has a baby in a glass container on his chest that shows him where the BT’s are. BT’s are like ghosts that drag you into a tar like substance that drags you towards an animal-like thing that attacks you while your trying to escape, it’s a trip to put it lightly.

Encounter with a BT

You play as Sam Porter-Bridges (Norman Reedus) a delivery man who is pulled into this mission to reconnect America. The first few hours of the game are very slow as you’re a delivery man who is transporting cargo on foot and the game even teases you by showing a motorcycle that you cant drive until you build a generator to power it. Once you’re able to drive it though travel becomes much faster unless your battery runs out and you can’t make a generator and have to walk the rest of the way. One thing that is a new concept is the weight distribution of the packages you carry, carrying more than Sam can will cause him to walk slower or clumsier making him fall over and damaging the packages.

Death Stranding is an awesome journey that is extremely original and has had me lost in this new world filled with danger and beautiful landscapes. I recommend this game to anyone and suggest that you take a good chunk out of your day to play and explore as its filled with so many things and even a few celebrities make an appearance like Conan O’Brian. Hideo Kojima has had a track record of making amazing games and because this is his first game since his departure from Konami you should expect more great games to come from his new studio.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Review

7/10

When Epic games released Fortnite no one knew how big it was going to get. It’s a free to play game that has made millions and has won awards for being the best ongoing game and evolving game last year. The simplicity and cartoonish graphics of the game make some people think it’s a kid’s game, but it’s actually a pretty good shooter that takes skill to be good and win a game. If you haven’t played in a while it might be a bit intimidating to get back into it with the new map, vehicles, and all the other stuff they’ve added. That being said, you should be fine to jump in with a friend and get a win eventually if you just work on your building and shoot first.

While I haven’t played Fortnite consistently, like I used to, the game hasn’t changed that much other than the map. It still has all the same main mechanics with a few more that help make the game easier, like the visual hearing that shows you the direction of someone’s footsteps. Some people may say that visual hearing is cheating or unfair, I say screw it they put it in the game for a reason and my headset isn’t good enough to pinpoint people’s direction from their footsteps. The new map is a lot to get used to but once you start getting around and knowing where you do best in you. I personally have been enjoying the new high tier pistol, its fast, accurate and can shred through an unsuspecting enemy.

Epic games have made their money from Fortnite by releasing cosmetic gear, a battle pass, and throwing events that are actually pretty fun. Recently there was a Star Wars event where you could find light sabers and blasters around the map, also there were Star Wars themed skins and gear released like a Millennium Falcon glider or Sith back bling. They have also had events related to other pop culture things such as Avengers, John Wick, and even an in game concert with Marshmallow. The way that this free game has generated money by releasing content that is just cosmetic and not having to buy anything to win a game just shows how successful a good game can be. What doesn’t make sense to me is despite the massive success that epic games has seen they still haven’t released the full game. They have pushed back releasing the save the world mode every year and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change anytime soon.

In conclusion Fortnite is a great shooter with a complex building system that takes skill to go toe to toe with other players. The cartoonish graphics allow for the game to be played by everyone and doesn’t make you buy anything to be good at the game, its all just to look cool in the game.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Review

8/10

Modern Warfare is the new installment in the Call of Duty franchise and Infinity Ward has brought the franchise back to its roots. It brings an intense story with stunning graphics and a multiplayer with a whole lot of weapon customization. Infinity Ward has been releasing new content for the game with new modes, maps, and guns since the release, and now are releasing more on February 11th. On the Call of Duty Twitter, a short video has been posted of what looks like a mission debrief to the fan favorite character, Ghost, and a message “the war rages on February 11th”. With season 2 starting with the return of Ghost you can expect new maps and guns to be dropped as well.

Story

It’s fair to say that Call of Duty players buy the games for the multiplayer and the story is an added plus to their purchase. This game has a solid story mode that takes classic modern Warfare characters into a different yet similar story arc while also introducing new characters. This new take on Modern Warfare seems to set up a story that will be continued in the next game. This story revolves around Kyle Garrick, an SAS soldier, and “Alex” a CIA Agent, both of which work with Captain Price, a familiar character from Modern Warfare, to stop Russian forces who have invaded the fictional country of Urzikstan. The game takes players into London, Russia and Urzikstan as they battle an Urzikstan terrorist cell and Russians. Infinity Ward also added a new mode that plans on bridging the gap of events between this game and its sequel, this mode is spec ops missions that has four players complete objectives to take down a target or retrieve information. If you own Modern Warfare and only play the multiplayer, I definitely recommend that you try out the story mode.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer in this game is reminiscent of the older call of duty games while offering new modes, more weapon customization, and a battle pass that so far isn’t making the game pay to win. One mode that is new to Call of Duty is Ground war, it brings a large map with vehicles and objectives to capture, similar to Battlefield games. The games weapon customization adds a lot of variety to your play style and with 10 custom loadout slots you can set up an class for any occasion. The maps do need work however as they allow for players to hide in the many corners around any of the maps. This has led to many players dying from someone camping around the corner, so expect to get shot in the back. In conclusion I think Modern Warfare is a great start to the new version of the classic series, and I cant wait to see what comes next.
