The Final Fantasy 7 remake is finally out, and it is a breathtaking adventure that has me struggling to stop playing it. Every time I’m playing and have to get off, I can’t stop until I get to a good spot in the story which usually means another 30 minutes or more. I don’t have experience playing final fantasy games either, but now that I’ve played this one, I plan on playing through Final Fantasy 15. Without having any knowledge of the series I was able to jump into this one and have an amazing time so far, so if you haven’t played a Final Fantasy before this could be a good starting point.

Final Fantasy 7 takes place in Midgar, a fictional super city that is run by the corporation Shinra. You play as Cloud Striffe, an ex-soldier trying to make his name as a mercenary who is hired by an Eco-terrorist group known as Avalanche, who believes Shinra is actually going to destroy the world. While with Avalanche he is reunited with his childhood friend Tifa who joins Cloud on his adventure. As you play through the story you meet new people and take on different quests to help people and find out what Shinra is really up to.

The gameplay is smooth and calculated, when in a battle you can attack normally or pull up the commands menu that gives you options of all the characters abilities and spells. Each character has different fighting styles that you can use, Cloud uses his sword and has two modes that if used correctly you can parry almost every attack. Barret uses his gun hand to deal damage to anything that’s out of reach and is able to take a lot of damage. You can also use something called a summons that is available during boss fights, where you summon a god to fight with you. Using a summons is very cool and can turn the tide in a fight when you think your done for. During battles you can hack your way through enemies or tactically use your abilities to weaken the enemies. The only problem that I have found in the game is that your health doesn’t regenerate on its own, after a battle it’s important to remember to heal Cloud and his companions.

Ive had a great time playing the Final Fantasy 7 remake and I think if your interested at all in the game give it a shot. Keep in mind I haven’t played Final Fantasy before and this one is great for someone new, even Cloud is new to Midgar so the game tells you about the world and what’s going on, therefore you haven’t missed anything needed from the old games.
