Death Stranding Review

Death Stranding is the newest game by Hideo Kojima and it’s a great game that is very confusing as it throws you into this post-apocalyptic world where dead bodies are practically nukes and rain (time fall) causes anything to age very rapidly. The game includes known actors such as Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Troy Baker, Mads Mikkelson and more. The games breath taking graphics are incredibly stunning and constantly cause you to just stop and look around. I haven’t been able to finish the game yet and have just recently had to travel around and up a mountain just to go back and forth a few times, I was warned that I was going to hate the mountain and yes, I hate that mountain.

Part of the mountain

As you progress and “reconnect America” you start to build roads that make travel much easier and less dangerous. Some parts of the game are just downright confusing like the fact that Sam has a baby in a glass container on his chest that shows him where the BT’s are. BT’s are like ghosts that drag you into a tar like substance that drags you towards an animal-like thing that attacks you while your trying to escape, it’s a trip to put it lightly.

Encounter with a BT

You play as Sam Porter-Bridges (Norman Reedus) a delivery man who is pulled into this mission to reconnect America. The first few hours of the game are very slow as you’re a delivery man who is transporting cargo on foot and the game even teases you by showing a motorcycle that you cant drive until you build a generator to power it. Once you’re able to drive it though travel becomes much faster unless your battery runs out and you can’t make a generator and have to walk the rest of the way. One thing that is a new concept is the weight distribution of the packages you carry, carrying more than Sam can will cause him to walk slower or clumsier making him fall over and damaging the packages.

Death Stranding is an awesome journey that is extremely original and has had me lost in this new world filled with danger and beautiful landscapes. I recommend this game to anyone and suggest that you take a good chunk out of your day to play and explore as its filled with so many things and even a few celebrities make an appearance like Conan O’Brian. Hideo Kojima has had a track record of making amazing games and because this is his first game since his departure from Konami you should expect more great games to come from his new studio.
