Call of Duty Modern Warfare Review

8/10

Modern Warfare is the new installment in the Call of Duty franchise and Infinity Ward has brought the franchise back to its roots. It brings an intense story with stunning graphics and a multiplayer with a whole lot of weapon customization. Infinity Ward has been releasing new content for the game with new modes, maps, and guns since the release, and now are releasing more on February 11th. On the Call of Duty Twitter, a short video has been posted of what looks like a mission debrief to the fan favorite character, Ghost, and a message “the war rages on February 11th”. With season 2 starting with the return of Ghost you can expect new maps and guns to be dropped as well.

Story

It’s fair to say that Call of Duty players buy the games for the multiplayer and the story is an added plus to their purchase. This game has a solid story mode that takes classic modern Warfare characters into a different yet similar story arc while also introducing new characters. This new take on Modern Warfare seems to set up a story that will be continued in the next game. This story revolves around Kyle Garrick, an SAS soldier, and “Alex” a CIA Agent, both of which work with Captain Price, a familiar character from Modern Warfare, to stop Russian forces who have invaded the fictional country of Urzikstan. The game takes players into London, Russia and Urzikstan as they battle an Urzikstan terrorist cell and Russians. Infinity Ward also added a new mode that plans on bridging the gap of events between this game and its sequel, this mode is spec ops missions that has four players complete objectives to take down a target or retrieve information. If you own Modern Warfare and only play the multiplayer, I definitely recommend that you try out the story mode.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer in this game is reminiscent of the older call of duty games while offering new modes, more weapon customization, and a battle pass that so far isn’t making the game pay to win. One mode that is new to Call of Duty is Ground war, it brings a large map with vehicles and objectives to capture, similar to Battlefield games. The games weapon customization adds a lot of variety to your play style and with 10 custom loadout slots you can set up an class for any occasion. The maps do need work however as they allow for players to hide in the many corners around any of the maps. This has led to many players dying from someone camping around the corner, so expect to get shot in the back. In conclusion I think Modern Warfare is a great start to the new version of the classic series, and I cant wait to see what comes next.
